A week later I handed the developed photos to Yamada. Developing the film cost more than I expected — two thousand yen. The photos were dark and the colours were off. Even so, Yamada chose almost only the disposable-camera photos for the album. Seeing that I was surprised at her choice, Yamada said, "In these ones nobody is looking at the camera." That night a message of thanks arrived. Every year, on their anniversary, the two of them open that album. I'm glad I bought those cheap cameras.
