An everyday story about going to a hair salon: making a reservation, explaining how short you want your hair, listening to the stylist's suggestions, getting a shampoo, and paying at the end. Recycles six N4 grammar points: 〜ようだ, 〜だけ, 〜方がいい, 〜ように言う, 〜てほしい, and 〜間に.

On Saturday morning, I went to a hair salon near the station. Since I had made a reservation by phone, I was able to sit down in a seat right away. When I looked in the mirror, it seemed my hair was a little too long.

美容師びようしに「今日きょうはどのくらい切きりますか」と聞きかれた。私わたしは「後うしろを短みじかくしてほしいです。でも、前髪まえがみは少すこしだけ切きってください」と言いった。

訳 English

The hairdresser asked me, "How much shall I cut today?" I said, "I want you to make the back shorter. But please cut only a little of the bangs."

美容師びようしは「お客きゃくさんには短みじかい髪かみが似合にあうようだ。今日きょうはもっと短みじかくした方ほうがいいですよ」と言いった。それで私わたしは、いつもより短みじかい長ながさに切きるように言いった。

訳 English

The hairdresser said, "Short hair seems to suit you. Today it's better to make it even shorter." So I told her to cut it to a shorter length than usual.

髪かみを切きっている間あいだに、私わたしは雑誌ざっしを読よんでいた。美容師びようしは手てが早はやくて、あっという間まに前髪まえがみもだけきれいに整ととのえてくれた。

訳 English

While she was cutting my hair, I was reading a magazine. The hairdresser's hands were fast, and in no time she tidied up just the bangs beautifully too.

切きり終おわった後あと、美容師びようしに髪かみを洗あらうように言いった。あたたかい湯ゆとシャンプーで頭あたまを洗あらってほしいとお願ねがいすると、とても気持きもちがよかった。

訳 English

After she finished cutting, I told the hairdresser to wash my hair. When I asked her to wash my head with warm water and shampoo, it felt really nice.

鏡かがみを見みると、短みじかい髪かみが本当ほんとうに似合にあっているようだった。最後さいごに受付うけつけで料金りょうきんを払はらった。次つぎもこの美容師びようしに切きってほしいので、また予約よやくをした方ほうがいいと思おもった。

訳 English

When I looked in the mirror, the short hair really did seem to suit me. Lastly, I paid the fee at the reception. Since I want this hairdresser to cut my hair next time too, I thought it would be better to make another reservation.
