A short everyday story about sorting bottles, cans, and paper and taking the recycling out on collection day at an apartment building, guided by a note the manager posted. Recycles six N4 grammar points: 〜はず, 〜てある, 〜なさい, 〜てよかった, 〜前に, and 〜続ける.

In the morning, a lot of cans, bottles, and plastic bottles had piled up in the kitchen. Today should be the day for recyclables collection.

外そとのゴミ置ごみおき場ばへ行いくと、壁かべに管理人かんりにんさんの紙かみが貼はってあった。「資源しげんを出だす前まえに、きちんと分わけなさい」と書かいてあった。

訳 English

When I went to the garbage spot outside, a note from the building manager had been posted on the wall. It said, "Before taking out recyclables, sort them properly."

紙かみには、缶かんと瓶びんとペットボトルはべつべつの袋ふくろに分わけると書かいてあった。曜日ようびによって回収かいしゅうするゴミが違ちがうはずなので、私わたしは表ひょうをよく見みた。

訳 English

The note said cans, bottles, and plastic bottles should be separated into different bags. Since the garbage collected differs depending on the day of the week, I looked carefully at the chart.

私わたしは先週せんしゅう、古ふるい新聞しんぶんや紙かみを分わけてあったので、今日きょうはすぐにゴミを出だす前まえに準備じゅんびができた。きちんと分わけておいてよかったと思おもった。

訳 English

Because I had separated old newspapers and paper last week, today I was able to get ready before taking out the garbage. I thought I was glad I had sorted it properly.

缶かんと瓶びんをべつの袋ふくろに分わけて、資源しげんを回収かいしゅうの場所ばしょに出だした。管理人かんりにんさんが来きて、「リサイクルをみんなで続つづけましょう」と言いった。

訳 English

I separated the cans and bottles into different bags and took the recyclables out to the collection spot. The building manager came and said, "Let's all keep recycling."

町まちのために、これからもゴミをきちんと分わけ続つづけたい。次つぎの回収かいしゅうの日ひも、出だす前まえに曜日ようびを確たしかめるはずだ。

訳 English

For the sake of the town, I want to keep sorting the garbage properly from now on too. On the next collection day as well, I should check the day of the week before taking it out.
