A flyer promises cheap vegetables, so it's time for a supermarket run: baskets, discounts, an out-of-stock favorite, and a new vegetable to try. It recycles everyday decision and description grammar — 〜たら (if ~), 〜らしい (apparently ~, from a flyer), 〜てみる (try doing ~), 〜ことにする (decide to ~), 〜やすい／にくい (easy/difficult to ~), and 〜し (listing reasons) — with grocery-shopping vocabulary you can reuse in a roleplay.

Grammar

〜たら

if ~ / when ~ (conditional; the next thing happens after)

This morning, there was a supermarket flyer in the mailbox. When I looked at it, apparently vegetables are on special sale and cheap today. So I decided to go shopping.

着つくと、入いり口ぐちでかごを取とって、店みせの中なかに入はいりました。安やすい野菜やさいがたくさんあって、うれしかったです。割引わりびきのシールが貼はってある野菜やさいもあって、新鮮しんせんでおいしそうな野菜やさいばかりでした。

When I arrived at the supermarket, I took a basket at the entrance and went inside the store. There were lots of cheap vegetables, which made me happy. Some vegetables even had discount stickers on them, and they were all fresh and delicious-looking.

When I went to the fruit corner, strawberries were sold out. It was disappointing, but I decided to buy apples instead. I also checked the expiration date and chose fresh ones.

レジで会計かいけいをしました。店員てんいんさんが「レジ袋ぶくろはいりますか」と聞きいたので、「大丈夫だいじょうぶです」と答こたえました。安やすいし、新鮮しんせんだし、今日きょうはたくさん買かいました。

I checked out at the register. The clerk asked, "Do you need a plastic bag?" so I answered, "No, I'm fine." It was cheap, and it was fresh, so I bought a lot today.
