I wanted new running shoes, so I went to a sporting-goods store. On the shelves, lots of shoes were lined up.

店員てんいんが来きて、「お手伝てつだいいたします。どんな靴くつを探さがしましょうか」と聞きいた。

A clerk came over and asked, "I'll help you. What kind of shoes shall I look for?"

「軽かるくて走はしりやすい靴くつが欲ほしいです」と言いうと、店員てんいんは「この靴くつは軽かるいはずですよ」と教おしえてくれた。

When I said, "I want shoes that are light and easy to run in," the clerk told me, "These shoes should be light."

値段ねだんも棚たなに書かいてあって、わかりやすかった。「サイズを測はかりましょうか」と店員てんいんが言いった。

The prices were also written on the shelf, so it was easy to understand. "Shall I measure your size?" the clerk said.

靴下くつしたを履はいたまま、靴くつを試ためした。店みせの中なかを少すこし歩あるいてみると、とても軽かるかった。この靴くつを選えらぶことにした。

With my socks still on, I tried the shoes. When I walked a little inside the shop, they were very light. I decided to choose these shoes.

会計かいけいまで、店員てんいんが案内あんないしてくれた。「夕方ゆうがたまで店みせは開あいていますので、またどうぞ」と言いわれた。新あたらしい靴くつを買かえて、うれしかった。

The clerk guided me all the way to the checkout. "The shop is open until evening, so please come again," they said. I was happy to be able to buy new shoes.
