Grammar

〜ことにする

decide to ~ (your own choice)

verb plain (non-past) ＋ことにする

犬いぬを飼かうことにしました。

I decided to get a dog.

〜なければならない

have to ~ / must ~

verb ない-form (drop い) ＋ければならない

毎日まいにち散歩さんぽに行いかなければなりません。

I have to go for a walk every day.

〜ようになる

come to ~ / start to ~ (a change over time)

verb plain (non-past) ＋ようになる

名前なまえを呼よぶと来くるようになりました。

It came to come when I call its name.

〜てあげる

do ~ for someone (I do it for them)

verb て-form ＋あげる

犬いぬと遊あそんであげます。

I play with the dog (for its sake).

〜たり〜たり

do things like ~ and ~ (non-exhaustive list)

verb た-form ＋り … た-form ＋り（する）

鳴ないたり走はしったりします。

It does things like bark and run.

〜ながら

while doing ~ (two actions at once)

verb ます-stem ＋ながら

テレビを見みながら世話せわをします。

I look after it while watching TV.

Once you have a dog, you have to take care of it every day. In the morning I give it food, and in the evening I take it for a walk.

最初さいしょ、モモは人見知ひとみしりで、よく鳴ないたり走はしったりしていました。でも、少すこしずつ家いえに慣なれて、名前なまえを呼よぶと来くるようになりました。

At first Momo was shy around people and often barked and ran around. But little by little it got used to our home, and it came to run over when we called its name.

私わたしは学校がっこうから帰かえると、テレビを見みながらモモと遊あそんであげます。モモは私わたしに本当ほんとうによくなつきました。

When I get home from school, I play with Momo while watching TV. Momo really took a liking to me.

先週せんしゅう、モモが少すこし元気げんきがなかったので、動物病院どうぶつびょういんに連つれて行いきました。先生せんせいは「心配しんぱいないですよ」と言いってくれて、安心あんしんしました。

Last week Momo seemed a little unwell, so we took it to the vet. The vet told us, "There's nothing to worry about," which put my mind at ease.

モモは明あかるくて優やさしい性格せいかくです。今いまではモモも大切たいせつな家族かぞくの一人ひとりです。これからも一緒いっしょに暮くらしていきたいです。
