Grammar

〜てしまう

did ~ completely / unfortunately (often regret)

verb て-form ＋しまう

落おとしてしまいました。

I (unfortunately) dropped it.

〜たところ

just did ~ / right after doing ~

verb た-form ＋ところ

降おりたところです。

I just got off.

〜ているところ

right in the middle of doing ~

Yesterday, on the way home by train, I dropped my wallet. Even searching my bag, it was nowhere to be found.

電車でんしゃを降おりたところで、財布さいふがないことに気きがついて、とても心配しんぱいになりました。

Right after getting off the train, I noticed my wallet was missing and got very worried.

財布さいふを電車でんしゃの中なかに忘わすれたかどうか分わからなかったので、駅えきの人ひとに聞きいてみることにしました。

Since I wasn't sure whether I'd left my wallet on the train, I decided to ask the station staff.

駅員えきいんさんは、ちょうど落おとし物ものを調しらべているところでした。「少すこし待まってください」と言いわれました。

The station attendant happened to be checking the lost-and-found just then. I was told, "Please wait a moment."

係かかりの人ひとに、財布さいふの中身なかみや色いろを聞きかれました。ぜんぶ答こたえると、「もう一度いちどよく探さがしてみます」と言いってくれました。

The attendant asked me about the contents and color of the wallet. When I answered everything, he said, "I'll take another good look."

しばらくすると、駅えきから「財布さいふが見みつかりました」と連絡れんらくがありました。だれかが交番こうばんに届とどけてくれたそうです。近ちかくの交番こうばんへ行いったら、受うけ取とれると言いわれて、本当ほんとうに安心あんしんしました。

After a while, the station contacted me to say, "Your wallet has been found." Apparently someone had turned it in at the police box. When I went to the nearby police box, they said I could pick it up, and I was truly relieved.
