Before you read — make your own sentences

Notice つもりだった (paragraph 2) — an intention that didn't go as planned — versus つもりで (paragraph 3), an attitude carried into an action. Which one describes a mindset, and which a changed plan?
Track うちに (paragraph 4, 若いうちに) marking a window of time still open, and 上で (paragraph 3, 考えた上で) marking a step done first before the next.
Find ついでに (paragraph 5) — one errand done in passing during another — and つまり (paragraph 6) restating a point more simply.

小ちいさなカフェを開ひらくのは、私わたしの長ながい間あいだの夢ゆめだった。十年じゅうねんかけて貯金ちょきんをして、ついにその夢ゆめを実現じつげんすることにした。

Opening a small cafe had been my dream for a long time. After saving up for ten years, I finally decided to make that dream come true.

最初さいしょは駅前えきまえの広ひろい店みせを借かりる借かりるつもりだったが、家賃やちんが高たかすぎて、あきらめた。

At first I had intended to rent a spacious shop in front of the station, but the rent was too high, so I gave up.

色々いろいろな店みせを見みて、よく考かんがえた上うえで、小ちいさくても自分じぶんらしい店みせにするつもりで、古ふるい建物たてものを借かりることにした。

長ながい準備じゅんびの後あと、やっとお店みせが開ひらいた。つまり、十年じゅうねんの努力どりょくがこの一日いちにちのためにあったということだ。今いまでは常連じょうれんのお客きゃくさんも増ふえてきた。

After long preparation, the shop finally opened. In other words, ten years of effort had all been for this one day. These days, regular customers have started to increase too.
