N3 consolidation story #37. The moment the narrator boards the morning train, an announcement says an accident has stopped it. With an important meeting that day, they transfer to another line, apologize to their boss, and arrive after the meeting has started. Recycles already-introduced N3 grammar with common commuting vocabulary. Patterns: にとって, ことになる, たとたん, 〜ば〜ほど, わけだ, せいで.

朝あさ、駅えきでいつもの電車でんしゃに乗のったとたん、「事故じこのため、この電車でんしゃはしばらく止とまります」というアナウンスが流ながれた。

In the morning, the moment I boarded my usual train at the station, an announcement played saying, "Due to an accident, this train will stop for a while."

事故じこのせいで、電車でんしゃがなかなか動うごかなかった。私わたしにとって、その日ひは大事だいじな会議かいぎがある日ひだった。遅刻ちこくして会議かいぎに間まに合あわないと、とても困こまる。

訳 English

Because of the accident, the train wouldn't move at all. For me, that day was a day with an important meeting. If I were late and didn't make the meeting in time, it would be a real problem.

時間じかんがたてばたつほど、駅えきはますます混雑こんざつしてきた。どの電車でんしゃも満員まんいんで、結局けっきょく、別べつの路線ろせんに乗のり換かえることになった。

訳 English

The more time passed, the more crowded the station became. Every train was packed, so in the end I ended up transferring to a different line.

会社かいしゃに連絡れんらくして、上司じょうしに電話でんわで謝あやまった。会社かいしゃに到着とうちゃくしたときには、会議かいぎはもう始はじまっていた。

訳 English

I contacted the office and apologized to my boss over the phone. By the time I arrived at the company, the meeting had already begun.

電車でんしゃが大おおきく遅おくれた。だから遅刻ちこくしたわけだ。次つぎからは、もっと早はやく家いえを出でようと決きめた。

The train was greatly delayed. That's why I ended up late. From next time, I decided to leave home much earlier.
