N3 story #25. The narrator spends a busy weekend helping a friend move out of their apartment — heavy boxes, a tight schedule, and a few small mishaps. Recognition-only reading that introduces seven new N3 patterns: 〜わけにはいかない, 〜わりに(は), わざと, わざわざ, 〜よりも, 〜ようがない, 〜ような気がする.

Grammar

〜わけにはいかない

Before you read — make your own sentences

Say something you can't skip doing with 〜わけにはいかない (例:大事なテストだから、休むわけにはいかない).

土曜日どようび、友ともだちの田中たなかさんが引っ越しひっこしをするので、手伝てつだいに行いった。仲なかのいい友ともだちだから、断ことわるわけにはいかない。

田中たなかさんはわざわざ僕ぼくのために冷つめたい飲のみ物ものを買かってきてくれた。荷物にもつは思おもったよりも重おもくて、汗あせがたくさん出でた。

Tanaka went to the trouble of buying me a cold drink. The load was heavier than I'd expected, and I sweated a lot.

段ボールだんボールが予定よていより多おおくて手間てまがかかり、夕方ゆうがたまでに全部ぜんぶ片付かたづけようがなかった。

There were more boxes than planned, it took a lot of effort, and there was just no way to get everything tidied up by evening.

汗あせをかいて疲つかれたけれど、前まえよりも田中たなかさんと仲良なかよくなれたような気きがする。「本当ほんとうにありがとう」と感謝かんしゃされた。

訳 English

I sweated and got tired, but I have a feeling we became better friends than before. 'Thank you so much,' he said, thanking me.
