Before you read — make your own sentences

Compare the mother's たとえ失敗しても (even if you fail, paragraph 4) with the daughter's 難しくたって (even if it's hard, paragraph 5) — same 'even if' meaning, but たって is the more casual, spoken version, fitting the daughter's own words.
てごらん (paragraph 2) is a gentle imperative used by a parent to a child — 'try doing ~.' Notice it's softer than a plain command.
Optional: track てばかりいる (paragraph 1, 'does nothing but') against てはじめて (paragraph 6, 'only after doing') — the story moves from a passive habit to an active realization.

日曜日にちようび、娘むすめは休やすみの日ひはいつもテレビを見みてばかりいる。今日きょうは、久ひさしぶりに一緒いっしょに何なにか作つくろうと思おもった。

On Sundays, my daughter always does nothing but watch TV on her days off. Today, I thought I'd make something together with her for the first time in a while.

パンと言いっても、いろいろな種類しゅるいがある。たとえば、食しょくパンやメロンパンなどだ。今日きょうは、簡単かんたんな食しょくパンを作つくることにした。

When it comes to bread, there are various kinds. For example, plain white bread or melon bread. Today, we decided to make simple white bread.

生地きじを作つくるのは難むずかしそうだった。娘むすめが心配しんぱいそうな顔かおをしたので、私わたしは「たとえ失敗しっぱいしても、大丈夫だいじょうぶだよ」と言いった。

Making the dough looked difficult. Since my daughter had a worried-looking face, I said, 'Even if you fail, it's okay.'

娘むすめは「難むずかしくたって、頑張がんばる」と言いって、一生懸命いっしょうけんめい生地きじをこねた。

My daughter said, 'Even if it's hard, I'll do my best,' and kneaded the dough with all her effort.
