N3 consolidation story #31. The narrator has just moved to a new town and greets the neighbors, learning about local life from the kind old woman next door. Recycles known N3 grammar and moving/neighborhood vocabulary. Patterns: 〜たばかり, 〜ばかりでなく, 〜に違いない, 〜ものだ, 〜わけがない, 〜に比べて.

Last week I just moved to this town. Compared to the place I used to live, here is very quiet and the environment is good.

引っ越ひっこしたら、隣となりの人ひとに挨拶あいさつをするものだと母ははに教おそわった。それで、隣となりの家いえにおかしを持もって行いった。おばあさんは優やさしくて、いい人ひとに違ちがいない。

訳 English

My mother taught me that when you move, you should greet the neighbors. So I brought some sweets to the house next door. The old woman was kind — she must be a good person.

隣となりのおばあさんは、親切しんせつなばかりでなく、この町まちのことをよく知しっている。ゴミの出だし方かたや、近所きんじょのスーパーのことまで教おしえてくれた。

訳 English

The old woman next door is not only kind but also knows a lot about this town. She even taught me how to take out the garbage and about the neighborhood supermarket.

夜よるはとても静しずかで、うるさいわけがないと思おもっていた。でも、上うえの階かいの子供こどもが走はしる音おとがして、少すこし迷惑めいわくだった。でも、慣なれれば気きにならないだろう。

訳 English

The nights are very quiet, so I thought there was no way it could be noisy. But the child on the floor above makes running sounds, and it was a bit of a nuisance. Still, once I get used to it, it probably won't bother me.

前まえの家いえに比くらべて、ここは近所きんじょの人ひとと付つき合あうことが多おおい。掃除そうじや生活せいかつのことも、少すこしずつ慣なれてきた。いい所ところに引っ越ひっこしたものだと思おもう。

訳 English

Compared to my previous house, here I socialize with the neighbors a lot. Little by little, I've also gotten used to the cleaning and daily life. I really feel I moved to a good place.
