At six I hurried out of the office. The station was crowded. As I was asking the station attendant about my commuter pass in front of the ticket gate, someone called "Tamura-kun" from behind me. It was the department manager.

The manager was supposed to be at the restaurant. My stomach suddenly began to hurt for real. Just as I was about to say "I'm on my way to the hospital," the manager spoke first. "Actually, I escaped too."
部長 も二次会 が苦手 で、若 いころから一度 もカラオケで歌 ったことがないそうだ。「毎年 、歌 わないのに料金 だけ払 っている」と言 って笑 った。二人 とも同 じ嘘 をついていたわけだ。
訳 English
The manager is not good with after-parties either, and apparently he has never once sung at karaoke since he was young. "Every year I pay the fee without singing," he said, and laughed. So the two of us had told the same lie.

"Tamura-kun, if you have time, shall we eat ramen or something?" the manager said. At an old shop in front of the station, we hardly talked about work at all. I don't intend to go to next month's drinking party either, but next time I think I'll decline without telling a lie.
