Keigo and politeness checker
The keigo mistake that matters is not using too little of it — it is pointing the humble form at the wrong person. Paste a sentence and see whether 尊敬語, 謙譲語 and 丁寧語 are aimed where they belong, and whether the register holds across the sentence.
What this page checks
- ·尊敬語 for what the other person does: いらっしゃる, ご覧になる, おっしゃる
- ·謙譲語 for what you do: 伺う, 拝見する, 申し上げる, いたす
- ·Whether the politeness level is consistent from start to end
- ·Business email and 面接 phrasing that is grammatical but reads as rude
What you get back
Here is a real example. Every correction names the grammar point, because knowing which character changed teaches you nothing about the next sentence.
You wrote
部長、明日の資料を拝見しますか。
Corrected
部長、明日の資料をご覧になりますか。
Director, will you be looking at tomorrow's materials?
1 correction — and why
拝見しますか → ご覧になりますか
拝見する is 謙譲語 — humble language for your own actions, used to lower yourself in front of the person you are speaking to. Asking whether your 部長 will 拝見する puts them below you. The other person's act of looking takes 尊敬語: ご覧になる.
More natural
部長、明日の資料はご覧になりますか。
Why this exists
Lang-8 shut down. HiNative answers arrive hours later, if at all. italki costs money per correction. Meanwhile the question “is this sentence right?” is the single most common thing a Japanese learner needs answered, and it needs answering in seconds, not tomorrow.
This checker corrects particles, conjugation, word order, politeness register, and word choice, then explains each fix in plain English and estimates the JLPT level of what you wrote. Every check produces a permanent page you can link, bookmark, or send to whoever asked.
What it will not do
It checks Japanese sentences and nothing else — it is not a translator, a chatbot, or a homework machine. Input has to be in hiragana, katakana, or kanji, and one sentence at a time.
Checking more than one sentence?
A free account keeps every check in one place and shows which grammar points you keep getting wrong — so the same particle mistake stops coming back instead of being re-corrected every week.
The checker itself stays free and unlimited either way. No card, no trial.
